renovations

today we had a free day, and our lovely friends who are looking after the caravan (they have flat land and he is a handyman and we will pay him for a few days work) were at home. so we demolished the inside of the van, while all the kids played and gardened.
a productive day. we removed the shower, put in a new wall and lifted all the old flooring.

our first night

we picked up the van and drove to a town called Cohuna.
the boys fell asleep in the car, but when they awoke this morning they were very excited.
we had breakfast and then explored the caravan park.
the above shot, although a mess shows what the van looks like.....

before we left there was a problem with one of the Brakes, but the community of the country shone through as the neighbour, who is a mechanic came over and fixed the problem .
well this beauty is ours.
let the fun begin !!

History

for as long as i can remember i have wanted a caravan. i can even remember spending summer holidays at our beach house in Sorrento and hounding mum and dad to camp on the foreshore like all the summer friends we made did... fast forward to now being a mum and this yearning for caravan/camping holidays has appeared again since having children.
in 2009 we spent a week in the Barossa and Clare Valleys in a Camper van. the boys (Hugo) often talks about this trip and we all hold great memories of this holiday.
in early February this year we stayed with friends on their block of land in Howqua on the banks of Lake Eildon. One morning john and I headed into the nearest town for a coffee, called Jamieson. John drove around this quaint old town and reminisced about spending time here in his younger years. he mentioned that it would be fun to come and stay for a weekend.
as we were driving back to our friends land i made the comment that i would love to have a caravan for exactly that kind of trip, as we drove back i shared this with John explaining that in a world where we had a van i imagined that we would sit as a family one night early in the week, we would lay a map of Victoria on the table and all choose a place to visit for the weekend, we would pack up the van and then spend the weekend exploring the town/area we had chosen. a great way to see many different parts of Victoria that we have never been and spend time together as a family.
the conversation must have resonated with John because next Saturday afternoon we were on the road to Echuca buying a caravan.
friends and neighbours of ours, have parents that live in Echuca. they are selling their van due to ill health. the van, although old has been in a shed for the past 7 years and has been used minimally, its clean, everything works and now its ours !!!
so here starts our adventures of us, our family and our caravan.
